Swami Sivananda Saraswati Swami Sivananda was born in Tamil Nadu, India in 1887. After serving as a medical doctor in Malayasia, he renounced his practice, went to Rishikesh and was initiated into Dashnami Sannyasa in 1924 by Swami Vishwananda Saraswati. He toured intensively throughout India, inspiring people to practise yoga and lead a divine life. He founded the Divine Life Society at Rishikesh in 1936, the Sivananda Ayurvedic Pharmacy in 1945, the Yoga Vedanta Forest Academy in 1948 and the Sivananda Eye Hospital in 1957. During his lifetime Swami Sivananda guided thousands of disciples and aspirants all over the world and authored over 200 books.

Paramahamsa Satyananda is considered to be one of the major forces in bringing yoga the West. He traveled the world tirelessly for over twenty years sharing the inspiration of yoga. He has brought to light ancient yogic teachings from sacred scriptures and lost traditions. He has framed them in a modern language which incorporates both traditional and scientific understandings. He wrote over 80 boks on Yoga, Tantra and Spirituality. Sri Swamiji retired from public life in 1988 to work for mankind’s upliftment in a more universal way. He now lives in a small village in Jarkhand in India, where he is working to support the local community and improve their quality of life.
Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati
In 1988 Paramahamsa Satyananda passed on the world-wide coordination of Satyananda Yoga to his successor Swami Niranjanananda, a modern master of yoga whose understanding spans both the scientific Western culture and the mystical wisdom of the East. Known as a yogi from birth, he began his training in India at the age of four. From the age of eleven he toured extensively in Europe, America and Australia. This experience gave him a deep understanding of the Western mind and society. Swami Niranjanananda has the wisdom of a seer and an ability to convey yoga’s timeless truths in an accessible and meaningful way. He exemplifies the harmony and fortitude of a yogi and inspires all who encounter him.
